Eco Church

We are delighted to announce that in Spring 2023  we have been accredited as an EcoChurch at Silver Award level.

In 2022 All Saints made the  decision to begin working towards becoming an Eco Church. This is a scheme which encourages and equips churches to care for God’s creation through 5 categories:

  • Worship and teaching – we are doing well on this category – we observe annually Creationtide and often host engaging speakers and shape our worship around the theme of caring for God’s world, care for the planet is often included in our weekly intercessions
  • Building management – this category is also looking good, we have recently installed all new LED lights in our Cornerstone building, but when the church building reopens this will be a challenge as we look to provide a welcoming community space whilst managing heating and watching our energy use
  • Land management – we have some excellent volunteers working hard to care for our churchyard and ensure that we have shrubs and bushes that are native and support birds and bees, there is a mowing schedule to ensure that areas are left unmown to encourage wildlife, and we have bird and bat boxes
  • Community and global engagement – this is about engagement with councils, MPs, lobbying, supporting and raising awareness of campaigns and providing a space for this, we continue to work on this area
  • Lifestyle – this is an area we are looking to work on, and a lot of it is about encouraging lifestyles changes among our congregation and community, for example around what we eat, transport, plastic use, littering etc

The project is run by A Rocha in partnership with the Church of England, Tearfund and Christian Aid.
