Progress report  – 30th  September  2022

Sadly the work inside the church has progressed very little since last week. All the radiators now have their pipework  We are promised underfloor pipework for next week and the trunking which will go right round the church giving us access to power or communications in more than 20 floor boxes from every pillar and quite a lot of other places as well.   The other work is the drains.  Somehow the contractors have fitted all the necessary drains form the utility area – from two toilets and handbasins and from the utility sink – around the steelwork for the mezzanine.  But drains are not very photogenic.

This has therefore left a great excuse for showing  the fun pictures from two weeks ago at the market stall.  Our expert face painter, Becky, aka The Reverend Becky Medlicott, seems to have pleased these two tigers with her handwork.

The market stall was not about fund raising but it was good to take £250 of donations.   We need them all, and more.  You will remember that we launched our £100,000 campaign last March and the really good news is that we have now raised one half of that – but that leaves £50,000.  In addition we have to meet some of the extra costs of the additional work and the delays from finding the vaults and we have one other big extra cost – getting a really well functioning, heritage-appropriate, automatic accessible door.  In simple terms we need another £120,000 to complete the work.

The website has all the details.  Think how you can be creative and get sponsored or donate to buy a chair in memory of someone or donate to our organ or main appeals. Please give generously.

Although the building itself is closed, worship continues in The Cornerstone on Sundays (8am, 9.30 and 11.15) and on weekdays (Tuesday and Wednesday at 10 am and Thursday at 9 am) and the bell ringers have access to the tower.  There is still access to almost all the churchyard either through the lychgate in London Road or the double gate in Norreys Avenue. The memorials by The Cornerstone and by the vestry door can be accessed by arrangement with the Parish office.
