Progress report – 12 May 2023
The progress for this week all depends on whether you are a glass half full or half empty person.
The pulpit has been cleaned and looks really good – but we are still waiting for a piece of stone to repair the bottom step and one upright to the rail.
The electricians were in on Tuesday so we now have servery lights and it looks miles better. But the dishwasher and fridge are still in the storage cabin awaiting installation.
The memorials are now all in position, but there is still some decoration particularly in the north aisle around the massive Edward Cotton memorial.
We are slowly changing gear from Borras’ work on the building to our work using the building. Hannah and Anne were at the volunteer fair in the Library on Wednesday and had a lot of interest from the visitors in the various volunteer roles we have on offer – more about them here. As soon as we know exactly what date we can get into the building there will be a call for a lot of help to get it back into use.
There is no change of gear though in our continuing need for donations: all the details are on the website. We particularly need donations for more chairs – 150 needed and just 65 donations so far.
Although the building itself is closed, worship continues in The Cornerstone on Sundays (8, 9.30 and 11.15am) and on weekdays (Tuesday and Wednesday at 10 am and Thursday at 9 am) and the bell ringers have access to the tower. There is still access to almost all the churchyard either through the lychgate in London Road or the double gate in Norreys Avenue. The memorials by The Cornerstone and by the vestry door can be accessed by arrangement with the Parish office.
