What’s been happening in the Church this week?

Progress report  – 13th October  2022

The pictures are all about pipes and things this week and they show progress.   The before and after pictures (taken from opposite directions) show real progress in the vestry:  the floor base is at last finished with the insulation laid so underfloor pipework  and electrical and communications cable trunking can be installed on top.

The drains for the toilets are in place and show just how deep the screed and stonework will be:  the apparently protruding manhole will be flush with the floor when it is all finished.  The grey pipes are those that serve the radiators; the yellow and red spray paint marks show different areas for all the pipes – the inset detail shows this is Zone 18.

Strictly speaking we now have a district heating system – or we will do.  The massive pipe with its serious insulation which has been in the churchyard since the end of July has now been installed. Or at least the part that goes inside has been. It took several people two hours to bend it into place in the trench around the mezzanine columns in the vestry.  Over the next weeks the trench will be dug for it to take it across the churchyard to the ex- toilet in The Cornerstone.

Thank you to all of you who are continuing to give to the appeal – following our appeal last month, and will update you as new numbers come in.  Please continue to pray about what you might give yourself and that all may give generously. The web site has all the details.  Think how you can be creative and get sponsored or donate to buy a chair in memory of someone or donate to our organ or main appeals.

Although the building itself is closed, worship continues in The Cornerstone on Sundays (8am, 9.30 and 11.15) and on weekdays (Tuesday and Wednesday at 10 am and Thursday at 9 am) and the bell ringers have access to the tower.  There is still access to almost all the churchyard either through the lychgate in London Road or the double gate in Norreys Avenue. The memorials by The Cornerstone and by the vestry door can be accessed by arrangement with the Parish office.
