What’s been happening in the Church this week?

Progress report  – 15th September  2022

Progress is still not fast but there has been a massive step forward in the last couple of days and we now have the frame of the mezzanine in place.  There was a massive sigh of  relief on the face of the architect when he walked into the ex-vestry and saw the bright white steel work.

The next thing to do in the vestry area is to get the insulation on to the floor the same way as it is now across the whole of the rest of the church.  This is something that should not take long but needs a different trade to complete it. Anyone who has been involved in even the simplest building at home will know the problem.  Only then can the underfloor heating pipes be laid and screeding take place.  Unfortunately we have missed what could have been one of the best Augusts ever for drying out the screed: lets now hope for an Indian summer.

Because the screed has to be laid across the whole floor to form a single slab, screeding has been waiting for the mezzanine frame.  The delay in getting the steelwork in place has therefore had significant knock-on effects.  For example, work on the new door cannot start to be done until the screed is down and dry and the outer framework constructed on it.

We have a stall in the Market Place on Saturday 17th September to raise the profile of the spaceforall work in the town and to generate much needed funds.     Please come and support the stall any time between 9 and 3pm .

Although the building itself is closed, worship continues in The Cornerstone on Sundays (8am, 9.30 and 11.15) and on weekdays (Tuesday and Wednesday at 10 am and Thursday at 9 am) and the bell ringers have access to the tower.

There is still access to almost all the churchyard either through the lychgate in London Road or the double gate in Norreys Avenue. The memorials by The Cornerstone can be accessed from the Cornerstone south hall so long as that is not in use.  The memorials by the vestry door can only be accessed by special arrangement, but this is not impossible: several people have done so already. Please contact the Parish office if you would like to visit one on a special day.
