Progress report – 26 May 2023
The big addition this week is the balustrade on the mezzanine. The photo was taken before installation was complete – hence the blue tape.
The two mobile servery counter units with excellent cupboard space below have been delivered earlier than expected but still need their Corian worktops fitted. They can live either against the wall or as a counter in front of the servery.
When we specified the powered door with a level threshold on the north wall, it was for the obvious need to get rid of the ramp and allow level access. We were all delighted that for whatever reason the Victorians had left us a plain wall, just waiting for a door or a window.
The architects have met the specification and have given us a wonderful bonus – a brightly lit corner of the church. Incidentally the pile of cables is waiting for the audio desk to be put back in position.
A well laid area of stone slabs makes an interesting feature outside the door.
Our need for donations continues: all the details are on the website.
Although the building itself is closed, worship continues in The Cornerstone on Sundays (8, 9.30 and 11.15am) and on weekdays (Tuesday and Wednesday at 10 am and Thursday at 9 am) and the bell ringers have access to the tower. There is still access to almost all the churchyard either through the lychgate in London Road or the double gate in Norreys Avenue. The memorials by The Cornerstone and by the vestry door can be accessed by arrangement with the Parish office.
