What is going on in the Church now?

Progress to date – 13 May 2022

Our contractors have now been on site for three weeks.  The most visible work so far is the Heras fencing around the church.   This will move around a bit as trenches are dug and other storage areas may be created.  There will always be access to most of the churchyard  – either through the lychgate in London Road or the double gate in Norreys Avenue. The memorials by The Cornerstone can be accessed from the Cornerstone south hall so long as that is not in use.  The only recent memorials that are not accessible are those by the vestry door. Please contact the Parish office if that is a problem for you. One other little change: there will be a temporary letter box on the right hand side of the Cornerstone entrance.

The bell ringers still have access to the church and you will hear the bells on Sundays and they will also be practising on Mondays.

The big activity is that Paye, the stone specialists,  and demolition contractors are moving in, and before they can do their work, the fragile items in the church have been protected.

Paye have been lifting the tiles and will set the good ones aside for relaying around the floor memorials and in two areas in front of the main and Lady Chapel sanctuary steps.  The demolition contractors have started work removing the mezzanine above the (previous) choir vestry.

Worship continues in The Cornerstone not just on Sundays (8am, 9.30 and 11.15) but also weekdays (Tuesday and Wednesday at 10 am).
