Rector of All Saints, Canon David Hodgson writes:
“April at All Saints Church will begin with two concerts in church by local groups. These provide us with a Spring music mini-series to welcome members of the community into the church building for an enjoyable evening. On Saturday 1st April, we are delighted to be hearing again Trinity Concert Band from Earley. This is a national award-winning symphonic wind band playing music from a range of sources. The concert will include film music from Harry Potter; Gustav Holst’s “Mars”, from the Planets Suite; “Nessun Dorma”; and a John Williams composition, “Schindlers List”.
Then on Sunday afternoon 2nd April we are highly excited to be hosting a performance of J.S. Bach’s St John Passion by Wokingham Choral Society conducted by Patrick Allies, with the Hampstead Chamber Orchestra. First performed in a church in Leipzig on Good Friday 1724 this piece tells the story of Christ’s crucifixion. It is a beautiful and inspiring way for us to mark Passion Sunday, the beginning of the final two weeks of Lent and the approach to Holy Week and Easter. Both these concerts have significant concessions for young people including free admission for under 16s with an adult on 1st April.”
