All Saints Church community has celebrated 50 years of ministry in the parish by the Reverend Colin James with special presentations at a recent Sunday service. Colin James began his public ministry in the parish, including preaching, on 24th February 1969, when he was licensed as a lay minister. Since then Colin has preached thousands of sermons and led many services. Later in his ministry, he was ordained to holy orders, as a deacon in 1996 and priest in 1997; continuing to serve in the parish of All Saints Wokingham.
Colin preached at the Parish Communion service on 24th February, the 50th anniversary followed by the presentation of card and gift from the church community, and a standing ovation. There was a short talk given by Rosemary Tucker about Colin’s involvement in the national campaign for the ordination of women to the priesthood during the 1980s and early 1990s.
Cake and bubbly were served in The Cornerstone after the service and a toast to Colin’s health.
