Service planned to bless low-energy lightbulbs and other environment-protecting items

All Saints Church plans a service to celebrate ways parishioners are helping to save the planet.  The Rector, Canon David Hodgson, says “We want people to bring along to this service something which demonstrates a way in which you are playing your part to reduce carbon emissions and restore the environment. Bring your “good” lightbulb, your food waste bin (!), a book you are reading to inform yourself more about the climate emergency, a poem or a prayer about it, or your letter to our MP demanding better action by the Government, and we will bless these in the service. We plan this for Candlemas Sunday 2nd Feb which is the Sunday when in older times parishioners would bring their candles to church to be blessed. The symbolism stands for our celebration of Christ as a light to the nations. Today we need the light of hope which Christ gives us as we face the challenge of protecting our planet.”
