HM Queen Elizabeth II has been a constant presence in our lives for over 70 years. She brought more to the role of monarch and head of state than a mere performance of duties. By her person and her values she has been a beacon of faithfulness, grace and integrity in public life which has guided many both at home and abroad. Her death at this moment in a time of multiple challenges for our country is a hard reality to face. Yet I hope these days of mourning, as we give thanks for the life and service of Queen Elizabeth, will give us the time to reflect on the really important values that guide our life together as a country, and as communities to seek God’s help for strength and vision to re-dedicate ourselves to caring and service.
There is a remembrance desk in the foyer of The Cornerstone with a book of condolence. Since our church building is closed currently parishioners of All Saints Wokingham are very welcome to visit St Paul’s Church on Reading Road if they would like to pray and light a votive candle in a church building. There are services of reflection at St Paul’s Church today Friday 9th September at 12 noon and at 6pm.
Our own Parish Communion service this Sunday will not start in the churchyard as previously advertised but will start as usual in The Cornerstone main hall. It will include special prayers for Queen Elizabeth and the Royal Family and for the new King Charles.
God save the King.
