Help out as we look forward to celebrating completion of the spaceforall works

As Anne King writes in the spaceforall progress report this week we are seeing more clearly now when the final elements of the spaceforall works will be completed. We have set a date for a celebration service with the Bishop of Oxford of Monday 19th June (revised from a previously advertised date).

Before that we are very strongly hopeful that on national Big Help Out Day (Monday 8th May – Coronation Bank Holiday) we will have enough access to the church to have teams of volunteers helping out inside to get the space ready for use again, and in the churchyard too. We need lots of hands to be lent – could yours be among them?

Before the Coronation Weekend,  spaceforall will have a stall at the Wokingham May Fayre on Monday 1st May. Here is another way to help out spaceforall. Could you make Coronation or Royal themed items for sale on the stall to raise funds? See the notice in this week’s e-newsletter for ideas.

There is so much to look forward to celebrating as we come closer to the re-opening.  Looking at the fund-raising aspect alone, we have managed to collect 96% of the funds we needed to find  – an astonishing £1,250,000, including £565,000 of individual and household donations with the Gift Aid they attracted.  We still need to find another £50,000 to finish and furnish the space, which sounds a lot, yet it is 4% of the funds we needed to collect. (These figures do not include the separate appeal to fund the rebuilding of the organ).

How will we raise that final £50,000? This Sunday 26th March we are calling on budding entrepreneurs to make money for spaceforall with a tenner to get you started. See the notice in this week’s e-newsletter.

Now we are turning to our companies and business community in Wokingham to ask how they might support completing the final 4%.  If you run a local business and would like to talk to us about helping with donations, or with lending a hand on the Big Help Out day, please get in touch to chat about options. If you work for a large company that offers employees the opportunity to nominate good causes think about nominating spaceforall. Remember that the outcomes of the project are not only a community space but also the impacts for people in the local community;  reducing isolation,  increasing residents well-being, strengthening community links, and enabling greater opportunities and access for arts and culture in the town.
