Messy Church celebrated Pentecost recently with colour and diversity; picking up on the main themes of this key festival in the Christian year. The time of the giving of the Holy Spirit is celebrated by the church as its birthday. So a birthday cake with candles was produced and the children present blew out the candles. Pentecost was also the moment when the church of Christ became a worldwide movement crossing barriers of language and culture. Bunting was made displaying the word for “love” in the wide range of languages spoken by families who were at the celebration.
Colourful streamers and hanging mobiles were amongst the craft items produced representing the rushing wind and fire of the Holy Spirit which came on apostles of Christ on the first Christian Day of Pentecost.
