Memorial service at church brings together bereaved in the community

Candles were lit as the names of departed loved ones were read by the clergy at the service and written on the cross of prayers.

Bereaved people and families from across the local community came together recently at All Saints Parish Church for a service of thanksgiving and commemoration for departed loved ones. During the service candles were lit and the names of the departed were read aloud.

The church holds the service annually in November . As well as a general invitation to the whole community, personal invitations were sent to the next of kin of all those for whom All Saints clergy had conducted a funeral in the preceding year.  The service was organised by the church’s bereavement care team led by Mrs Claire Jones, with administrative support by the Parish Administrator, Mrs Jo Asplin.

Tea, coffee and cake were served in the church immediately after the service, when a high proportion of the congregation stayed behind to mingle and to talk.

The service in church was conducted by the Rector, Canon David Hodgson, and the  short talk  was given by honorary priest in the parish The Reverend Colin James.
