The second sermon in the Season of Creation at All Saints Church, given by the Reverend Colin James, was a searching message urging us to respond to the planetary emergency, based on God’s call to us to choose life. God’s chief characteristic is to show mercy and pity and yet human beings, having been given responsibility by God to care for creation, exercise cruel power over nature and God’s creatures rather than cherishing them and protecting them. As humanity crucified Christ so we also are crucifying the created world. The words of God in the Bible “choose life” have now become a challenge to us of unprecedented urgency.
