Chairs

spaceforall  Sponsor a Chair Appeal

Please sponsor a chair to make the most of the new space in church when we re-open: £268 per chair

Howe 40/4 chair: wood veneer seat and back with chrome frame

We aim for a well- furnished church , looking good as soon as we open, and with endless variations of seating layout. Some chairs will have arms. All can be linked together for safety, and stacked and transported on dollies for storage

The main chair we will be using in the re-opened church is the Howe 40/4 design. This chair is installed in many cathedrals and parish churches across the country which have chosen a flexible seating solution.  It is a pioneering design that has stood the test of time . It combines elegance, comfort, durability and ability to be lifted and stacked readily.  We will be choosing the wooden seat and back with metal frame.   This is a chair which scored highly when a range of chairs were tested by members of the church in 2019.

We need a minimum of 150 of the Howe chairs in the church, which will be the chairs of first choice for all services and events, including use in the cafe area.

We will also be buying other chairs for extra seating at large events and services, folding cafe tables and children’s furniture. They are not part of this sponsor a chair appeal. These will be funded from the general spaceforall appeal which is still open for donations.

Please consider making a special gift of a whole chair, or two chairs, or more,  if you are able, for £268 per chair.

Howe chairs in use at Wallingford Parish Church, Oxon.

An element of the £268 per chair  includes the cost of the stacking dollys and the links to join chairs together. The slightly higher costs of chairs with arms will be funded from the gift-aid and other donations we receive towards chairs.

Dedicate a chair

We invite you to dedicate a whole chair in memory of a special person, such as a departed loved one , or  a special event in your family’s life; such as a wedding, christening, or confirmation at the church.

Dedications cannot be inscribed on the chairs themselves but will be recorded either in a special book or board to be displayed in the church.
