The Flower Guild arranges flowers in church throughout the year, except during the penitential seasons of Advent and Lent. Membership is open to all those interested in arranging or helping with flowers in church.
Aims of the Flower Guild
To provide things of beauty for the appreciation of the parish in support of worship
To involve members in church life
To help and encourage members to develop and use their artistic talents in arranging flowers
To be supportive of each other as a group and to provide social contact through a common interest
To complement and enhance the church’s architecture and liturgical vestments, to reflect the appropriate seasonal colour
Large festivals, Advent, Christmas, Easter and Harvest require many arrangers and helpers and you will always be made welcome to try something, however basic. Help with preparation the day before is always useful and there will be someone to give you guidance whatever level of experience.
Special Flowers are arranged for weddings for additional fees. This will go towards the cost of purchase of the Main arrangement; a second arrangement in the Porch and an additional twelve pew ends. The wedding couple may then be able to select colours of flowers with guidance from our Wedding Advisor. Click here for our ‘Guide to Wedding Flowers’. Arrangers give their time free of charge.
Donations, gift aided if you wish, may also be made at Easter for church flowers or during the year, for a named arrangement assembled in the Porch for a special occasion or for the memorial anniversary of a loved one.
There is a Christmas Flower Workshop in December for members and friends, and an occasional Wedding workshop prior to a wedding where we have been asked to provide the flowers. These will be advertised in the Church weekly notices, and to members by email/telephone.
Anyone who would like to arrange with us, from complete beginners to those more experienced will be most welcome.
Give it a try. Each of us was new to arranging in the early stages. Above all enjoy arranging flowers; there may be many reasons for doing so, each personal to you, maybe contemplation, significant memories, joyful anticipation, thankfulness, or as a personal act of worship.
