Formally The Church of England Childrens’ Society : Charity Number 221124
Vision – A society built for all children
The charity helps the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children in our society today. We raise money to help children escape from poverty, neglect and abuse and have a better start in life. We work with children who feel scared, unloved and unable to cope. We listen. We support. We act, because no child should feel alone.
Every young person deserves a good childhood.
That’s why we fight for the hope and happiness of young people. We see the hope and courage in young people every day, and it inspires us to support them through their most serious life challenges.
We are a national charity, working with young people to support them through their most serious life challenges. We campaign tirelessly for the big social changes that will improve the lives of those who need hope most. We’ve been doing this for 140 years and we won’t stop until we’ve built a society where hope is alive in every child.

The Wokingham Committee of The Children’s Society
The Wokingham Committee of The Children’s Society was founded over 50 years ago in 1969 and currently has members from four local churches: All Saints, St Paul’s, St Nicholas, and St Catherine’s.
In the year ending March 2019 we raised a total of £8,000 for the society. The biggest event was the ever-popular annual Quiz Evening in The Cornerstone in January. The Christingle service at All Saints in December 2019 was also a lovely occasion with a festive tea afterwards.
Other events organised included a band concert, a summer luncheon, collections outside supermarkets and sales of Christmas cards. Many people have donation boxes in their homes too so that they can collect money throughout the year.
